You Want to Study the Bible?
Many have repeatedly asked: "What can I do to deepen my understanding of the Scriptures as I study the Bible?"
The Bible can seem rather intimidating if you've never read it—it's huge. Besides, the preacher always breaks it down during church services…right? Actually…wrong.
It's great to have a general understanding of the Bible, and attending services will help you explore various themes with the guidance of a minister. However, it's not enough. Reading and studying the Bible is central to knowing God. It's impossible to have a relationship with someone you never talk to, and God primarily speaks to us through the Bible. This is precisely why we must read.
The apostle Peter tells every Christian to be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in him. A believer ought then to be able to give an adequate answer to the question "Why are you a Christian?" The command to be ready with an answer is not just for church leaders, teachers and elders, but to each one who wants to or already identifies as a Christian. We encourage you to 'dig deeper' into the word and stand ready to defend the truth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Aside from your daily reading of the Bible you need to set aside some time, as often as you may want to make it, for some serious meditation upon the Scripture.
